Meet Chatty and Chipper the chickens!! They are extremely chipper, a little chatty, and oh so cute!

This post includes a Free Modification of my Gabby the Goose crochet pattern.
These little chickies are the perfect crochet project. They work up quickly, can be made as a lovey, or stuffy, and the original goose pattern comes with accessories that will pair with your chickens as well!

Let's get started!
Supplies:
- Gabby Goose Crochet Pattern
- Super Bulky Yarn/ Weight 6
- A small amount of worsted-weight black and white yarn for the eyes.
- Crochet Hook: Bernat Blanket/Big Twist 8mm, Sweet Snuggles Lite/Parfait Chunky 6.5mm
- Stitch Marker
- Scissors
- Stuffing
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional: Safety Eyes 18mm (not recommended for children under 3 years old).
- Optional: LLTag by Laserllamaboutique
Abbreviations:
- MR = Magic Ring
- ST(S) = Stitch(es)
- SLST = Slip Stitch
- SC = Single Crochet
- SC2TOG = SC 2 Together
- HDC = Half Double Crochet
- HDC2TOG = HDC 2 TOGETHER
- DC = Double Crochet
- DC2TOG = DC 2 Together
- FLO = Front Loop Only
- CH = Chain
- INC = Increase
- DEC = Decrease (Invisible)
- FO = Fasten Off
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- SM = Stitch Marker
- RD(S) = Round (s)
- + = complete in the same ST
- (...) = Repeat sequence
Instructions:
Head Mod:
Complete RDS 1-4 as written.
RDS5-6: SC22, BLO SC3, SC7 (32)
- Make sure your BLO STS are centered in the front. If not, adjust them.
- Place a SM in the open FLO of each RD. You will use these open FL later to add the beak.
*Go back to the Gabby Goose pattern and start at RD7.*
- Omit the tuft.
- If using Safety Eyes: place them between RDS5-6, 7 visible STS apart.
- Continue the head as written

Beak Mod:
RD1: Join CC yarn in the bottom right FL of RD5. SC in each FL of RD5, turn and work a SC in each FL of RD6. (6)
RD2: SCDEC x3. (3)
- FO leaving a long tail.
- Using your tapestry needle, weave your yarn tail through the remaining stitches. Pull tight to close.


Comb:
Note: TC = triple crochet
Count up 6 rounds from the beak.
Place 3SMS every other row apart.

Use red yarn.
Beginning in the SM closest to the beak:
- 1st SM: (ch1+sc+hdc+dc+hdc+sc),
- 2nd SM: (hdc+dc+tc+dc+hdc),
- 3rd SM: (sc+hdc+dc+hdc+sc),
- SLST to join.
- FO and weave in your ends.


Wattles:
Go down 1 whole hook size from what you used for your chicken.
Use red yarn.
+ = In the same ST.

Begin on the upper right side of the beak:
- Join yarn (CH5, starting in the 2nd CH from your hook, HDC+HDC, SLST x3, SLST back to the head).
- Repeat from (to).
- Feel free only to add one if you choose.
FO with a tail. Use your tail to tack down the wattle to the beak. Weave in your ends.
